After Gai's death, Shu retrieves the king's power stolen by Gai, storing it now in his Void. However, Shu successfully reacquired the king's power with the last sample of Void Genome, making him an exception. Haruka Ouma states, if the person who has lost the power once injects themselves again with the Void Genome, they'll die. When Gai returned, he was able to steal king's power by severing Shu's right arm. When the power is used, a mark appears on the hand of the user, unique to them. Once the Trigger Genome cylinder is used or broken, the king's power binds itself to the host's arm. In the anime, one who possess this power is referred as 'king'. It stems from the Apocalypse Virus, which analyzes intron sequences in the human genome and draws out the power hidden within a person by converting it into a Void. 3 List of Major Voids that have appeared so far.

The name Saeko means 'be clear, serene, cold, skillful' (冴) ( sae) and 'child' (子) ( ko).

Despite her infliction, she managed to carry Shu to term and her life was sacrificed in order for him to be born. While she was with her 5-year-old daughter, Saeko (speculatively) and Mana came in contact with the meteorite that Mana found, and speculatively, the virus within the meteorite infected Saeko. Five years after having Mana, she became pregnant with Shu Ouma. She had been pregnant with Mana Ouma (Saeko's first child) fathered by Kurosu Ouma, who she gets married to and moves to Oshima with him to be with her family. Saeko worked at the college's medical school and was apparently renowned around campus for her accomplishments. Later, in a photo, she is displayed in a typical summer dress and hat and a pair of sandals with her hair cut short at her shoulders. Saeko had waist-length dark brown hair, dark brown eyes and she had only been seen nearly naked in one scene. Episode 20 Saeko Shijou (四条冴子 Shijō Saeko) was a graduate student at Tennozu College where Kurosu Ouma and Shuichiro Keido also attended.
